Champlain Valley LWV Monthly Meetings
We are alternating between noon and evening meetings on the second Wednesday
of each month, September through May.
Unresolved issues in the Legislature: Health Care Costs, Education Financing
and Energy Needs. Join us at our new venue for a discussion on statewide
issues facing Vermont as we head into the November elections.

CIVIC EDUCATION CONFERENCE- Vee Gordon
Sign up now for 2nd annual Conference on Civic Education to be held November
15 at the Statehouse in Montpelier! Free admission. Please call Vee at
878-5650 if interested. She needs an estimate of attendees, in order to provide
sufficient food. Below is the tentative schedule.
Registration: 8am - 8:45 am in the Statehouse Lobby
Session 1: 8:45 am - 9:45 am
Session 2: 10 am - 11 am
Keynote Speaker (Terry Pickerel - Dir of the Education Commission of the States): 11: 15 am
Lunch: Noon - 1:00

18 breakout sessions will be offered. They range in scope from: Civic Rights
Unit - River Project - Student Government - Mock Legislative Session -
Measurable Outcomes of Civic Learning. And more! Many students will be
participating along with their teachers.

I took on the job of editor just before taking the reins of a local issue
campaign in Essex. Hence the delay in your receiving this newsletter. I
apologize for this late distribution. Please let me know what you'd like to see in
future issues. And thank you for bearing with me as I learn these ropes.
VOTER REGISTRATION: Thank you to everyone conducting voter registration
drives, large and small, in recent months, including Marge Gaskins, Jean Norton and
Irene Wrenner who registered voters after Naturalization Ceremonies on
September 11 and October 2. ... It's easy to become a Notary Public. If aren't
already, please consider doing so, then you, too, can help register voters!
VOTER REGISTRATION DEADLINE: NOON on Monday, October 30 -- Application must
be received by Town Clerk before NOON for the Vermont General Election -
November 7, 2006
