REPORT OF THE NOMINATING COMMITTEE + MARCH 2006

The Nominating committee submits the following slate of officers and directors to be voted on by the membership of the Champlain Valley league of Women Voters at Annual Meeting. All positions are for a two year term, expiring in 2008.

PROGRAM FOR 2006-2007

Suggested Program for 2006-2007: the Board-recommended area for concentration is environmental issues. The Board also recommends retention of all positions currently held: Making Democracy Work (Civics Education); School Choice; and Education Finance and Quality.

Minutes for the 2006 annual meeting

CHAMPLAIN VALLEY LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS

Annual Meeting May 17, 2006

The meeting, held at the home of Mabel Buttolph, was called to order by President Edith Sanderson, with 14 members in attendance.

Minutes: The minutes of the 2004 Annual Meeting were approved as presented.

Budget: Amy Bond presented the proposed budget for 2006-2007, and read the attached report written by committee chair June Carmichael. After brief discussion, the budget was accepted by unanimous vote.

Election of Officers: Jean Norton, chair of the Nominating Committee, presented the proposed slate of officers, with no candidate for Vice President and four new directors. Amy Bond noted that the Bylaws allow for election of only three new directors at each Annual Meeting, and moved the following: With her permission, Irene Wrenner's name be removed as a nominee for director and be placed as nominee for the position of Vice President. The motion was seconded and adopted, and the Secretary was instructed to cast a unanimous ballot for the slate:

Bonnie Scott and Keri Toksu commented that, as Directors, they hope to increase membership among younger women.

The meeting was turned over to incoming President Marge Gaskins.

Departing President Edith Sanderson, Vice President Barbara Bowen, and membership chair Gail Feitelberg were thanked for their hard work and many accomplishments during their tenure, and Nominating Committee members Jean Norton and Sherry Worrall were thanked for their good work.

Program: The membership voted to retain all of the previously held positions: Making Democracy Work (Civics Education); School Choice; and Education Finance and Quality.

Other Business:

Vee Gordon reported on Quad State Council which was held in conjunction with a conference on climate change in Maine.
The upcoming LWVUS Convention was discussed. Vermont League President Kate Rader will attend. Discussion of a possible study on immigration is expected.
Mary von Ziegesar, Champlain Valley member and Secretary of the LWVVT Education Fund, encouraged members to purchase copies of the Vermont Citizens' Guide as gifts to individuals and to schools, libraries and other institutions.

The meeting was adjourned with thanks to Mabel Buttolph for opening her home to members and their guests for the meeting.
